Media Art Exhibition Seoul — Living Geometry 2026 (KAIST XD Lab, Yeongdeungpo)

One media art exhibition on view in Seoul this spring and summer is Living Geometry 2026 — a free special exhibition curated and developed by KAIST Experience Design Lab (XD Lab) at YDP Artsquare on the B2 level of Times Square Mall in Yeongdeungpo, May 1 – June 28, 2026. Seven works span single-channel video, sensor-driven interactive installation, and multi-device web art.

About the exhibition

Media art is the contemporary category that takes technical media — video, sound, light, sensors, code — as its primary expressive material. Living Geometry 2026 spans single-channel video, sensor-driven interactive installation, and multi-device web art, so visitors can compare how the same city (Yeongdeungpo, Seoul) is read through different media. Banpo-Xism is not a light software demo: it uses a multi-device web system and a differential-geometric model to critique the Korean real-estate value system.

The show is curated and developed in-house by KAIST Experience Design Lab. KAIST Industrial Design ranked 28th worldwide (1st in Korea) in the 2025 QS Arts & Design rankings and 1st worldwide in the 2025 iF Design Ranking among education institutions. The lab publishes in Leonardo Journal (MIT Press), ACM SIGGRAPH, and ACM DIS.

Works on view

Single-channel video — Yiyun Kang's Vanishing 2.0 (2025) and Technosphere (2026); Minhyeok Seo's Post-Vanishing (2026). 2–4 minutes each, addressing the sixth mass extinction, the Anthropocene, the technosphere, and the post-human city.

Interactive installation — Intae Hwang's Goldilocks (2025, production supported by the Korea Foundation) and Vessel (2026); Minhyeok Seo's City'scape + Tied (2026). Seven weather parameters, a pulse sensor, and a physical door — three different input modes.

Multi-device web work — Jeanyoon Choi's Banpo-Xism (2026). A web piece that runs in the visitor's own browser, combining AI-generated apartments, sound, text, and code into a critique of Korean real-estate value. The work folds the two-dimensional plane of location × brand into a differentiable-manifold structure activated by viewer input.

About the exhibition

Living Geometry 2026 is a media-art special exhibition curated and developed by the KAIST Experience Design Lab (XD Lab) within KAIST's Department of Industrial Design. It re-threads Yeongdeungpo's visible urban landscape, its invisible data, and the emotional strata behind them in a geometric language — recasting the city, beyond a stilled aggregate of concrete, as an organism in continual pulse. Seven works span single-channel video, interactive installation, and multi-device web art.
