배니싱 2.0 — Vanishing 2.0

이 작품은 여섯 번째 대멸종, 즉 인간에 의해 촉발된 홀로세 멸종을 다룬다. 인류 활동으로 지구 생물종의 최소 75%가 사라질 위기에 놓였으며, 이는 생태계 파괴와 생물 다양성의 급격한 감소로 이어지고 있다. 다른 종들의 몰락은 인류의 착취를 드러내는 지표이자 지속 가능한 미래의 불안정을 경고한다.

〈Vanishing〉은 서울 코엑스 대형 전광판에서 처음 공개되어, 인간에 의해 사라진 종들을 위한 도심 속 헌사로 상영되었다. 이번 〈Vanishing 2.0〉은 추모를 넘어 사라짐 이후의 가능성을 상상한다. 초현실적 풍경 속 화석화된 날개와 불가사의한 골격은 한때 존재했으나 사라진 생명들을 환기시키며, 동시에 그 부재가 남긴 결과를 성찰하게 한다.

Vanishing 2.0 — 배니싱 2.0

This work confronts the sixth mass extinction — the Holocene extinction precipitated by human activity. At least 75 percent of the Earth's species now stand on the brink of disappearance because of what we do; the result is ecosystem collapse and a precipitous loss of biodiversity. The fall of other species is both an index of our exploitation and a warning that the foundations of a sustainable future have already begun to slip.

〈Vanishing〉 was first unveiled on the large outdoor screen at COEX in Seoul, an in-city homage to species erased by human hands. 〈Vanishing 2.0〉 moves past elegy to imagine what might emerge after disappearance. Across surreal landscapes, fossilised wings and inscrutable skeletons summon lives that once existed and are no more, and invite us to reckon with what their absence has left behind.
