(Living Geometry 2026)
Rainy Day Seoul — An Indoor Course Anchored on Free Media Art (Living Geometry 2026, Yeongdeungpo)
On a rainy day in Seoul, one indoor route closes without stepping outside. Yeongdeungpo Station (Line 1 / KTX) connects underground to Times Square Mall, whose B2 level holds KAIST XD Lab's free media-art exhibition Living Geometry 2026. The full day — exhibition, lunch, film, bookshop, shopping — fits inside a single building.
Why it works for rain
Yeongdeungpo Station connects directly to Times Square via an underground link, so visitors arrive without unfolding an umbrella. YDP Artsquare, where Living Geometry 2026 runs, is on the B2 level — five minutes from the station with no outdoor exposure.
The show is free, no reservation, daily 10:00–18:00 (last entry 17:45). The suggested visit is 60–90 minutes, but the rhythm of the interactive pieces lets visitors stay longer. The same building holds a department store, a supermarket, a multiplex, a bookstore, and a food court — the rest of the day plays out without weather.
Wheelchair- and stroller-accessible. The route is stable for families with children or seniors on a rainy day.
Suggested rainy-day course
11:00 — Yeongdeungpo Station Exit 4 → Times Square underground link. Umbrellas down. Coffee at the 1F atrium café.
12:00 — B2 level, YDP Artsquare. Living Geometry 2026, 60–90 min.
13:30 — Lunch at the Times Square food court.
15:00 — 2F Kyobo Book Centre or Electromart.
16:30 — Pop-ups and small exhibitions at the 1F atrium.
17:30 — A film at CGV Yeongdeungpo (optional).
20:00 — Back via the same underground link to Yeongdeungpo Station. Zero outdoor exposure.
Pieces that pair with a rainy day
Intae Hwang's Goldilocks lets visitors adjust seven weather parameters and place their result against Seoul's live data to reveal a collective Goldilocks zone — Seoul's actual weather appears in the work as you set yours.
Hwang's Vessel asks for a hand on a pulse sensor; the visitor's heartbeat meets a year of Seoul's mobility data, projected dual-channel. A direct 30–60 second encounter on a slower city day.
Minhyeok Seo's City'scape + Tied turns a single physical door into a private threshold — a quiet cut that fits the rhythm of a rainy day.
Indoor extensions
Inside Times Square — Shinsegae Department Store, E-Mart, CGV Yeongdeungpo, Kyobo Book Centre, the 5F rooftop garden (covered sections), the 1F atrium.
Underground link — Yeongdeungpo Station underground shopping arcade and Lotte Department Store. A longer day can be added without going outside.
Exhibition, shopping, dining, film — four axes inside one building. Stable on a rainy day for families, dates, or friend groups.

About the exhibition
Living Geometry 2026 is a media-art special exhibition curated and developed by the KAIST Experience Design Lab (XD Lab) within KAIST's Department of Industrial Design. It re-threads Yeongdeungpo's visible urban landscape, its invisible data, and the emotional strata behind them in a geometric language — recasting the city, beyond a stilled aggregate of concrete, as an organism in continual pulse. Seven works span single-channel video, interactive installation, and multi-device web art.
